~First of two blogs on the contemporary construction of false gods~
Growing up in the 80s, I recall watching Steven Spielberg’s Close Encounters of the Third Kind on television, but I didn't fully understand its implications at the time. The hit movie from the late 70s began rotating on cable television each year and became a popular culture icon of sorts, like many science fiction productions. The protagonist, played by Richard Dreyfuss, essentially gives up his wife and kids to pursue his “new religion” after a UFO encounter on a dark highway. Spielberg wrote the script so that Dreyfuss’ character is fundamentally changed, desiring peace and contentment that only an evolved alien species can offer him. The movie unmistakably portrays a religious event.
Of course, this type of secular religious propaganda has been pulsating through American culture for decades, often reinforced by a Hollywood belief system that incorporates evolution. Beyond Spielberg, other producers, writers, and directors have made their own way into the American conscience. For instance, Gene Roddenberry, the atheist creator of Star Trek, began to see his belief system infiltrate the minds of millions through syndication in the 70s. The message in the series and subsequent major films and spin-offs points to the evolution and ingenuity of man in a universe devoid of God.
While some call out the entertainment value of these productions, it must be acknowledged that such so-called art represents the hopes and dreams of both the architects and audiences. There are intentional messages laced throughout—that evolution is man’s ally and that Holy God is remote or does not exist. Going a step further, one can extrapolate that man is his own savior, or that an evolved lifeform from another galaxy is mankind's savior. Accordingly, the religion of UFOs and aliens denies Christ Jesus as the true Savior. The indoctrination is in plain sight.
Consequently, it is in my view that most science fiction entertainment has reinforced a host of satanic beliefs. Much of it is propaganda that has conditioned the minds of men to earnestly believe in their heart's desires, with the chief desire being the elimination of Holy God. Ultimately, the evolution myth mixed with UFO and alien fantasy allows men to worship at the altar of self.
In our present time, longings for UFOs and aliens are at an all-time high. Contemporary manmade inventions have replaced yesterday’s fairy tales, such as the Egyptian gods and Greek mythology. Grainy videos, vague objects recorded by military aircraft, and fantastical stories enhance anticipation. Today's frenzy has reached a crescendo.
Nevertheless, man has consistently arrived at devices that attempt to deny Yahweh as Lord and Creator. Baal worship and the Canaanite family of gods have not disappeared; they just have new names. There is nothing new under the sun. Despite God’s word and His mercy through Jesus Christ, most of the world will continue to turn from His love and mercy to chase alternative false gods. Thus, in our time of continual speculation and deception, it is critical that all Christians reject anything that is contrary to God. We are enabled to do so by equipping ourselves in His word.
John 6:35
Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me will never hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst."
John 8:12
Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will never walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.”
John 10:7
So Jesus said to them again, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep."
John 10:11
“I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep."
John 11:25-26
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die—ever. Do you believe this?”
John 14:6
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father but through Me.
John 15:1
“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vine-grower."
Romans 1:25
For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
